Mexican Hot Chocolate

This frothy hot chocolate has subtle Mexican spice to warm you up on a chilly day.

Ingredients

1/2 cup granulated sugar 125 mL
1/2 cup water 125 mL
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 75 mL
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 2 mL
5 cups milk 1.25 L
1/2 tsp vanilla 2 mL
1/2 tsp almond extract 2 mL

Instructions

Step 1
In a large saucepan, over medium heat, heat sugar, water, cocoa powder and cinnamon until sugar dissolves.

Step 2
Add milk; heat until steaming (do not boil).

Step 3
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and almond extract.

Tips

If you have a manual frother, whirl the hot chocolate until very frothy before serving.
