2012 Kids Recipe Challenge winning recipe: 1st Place!

1 tbsp sodium reduced soy sauce 15 mL
1 tsp sesame oil 5 mL
¼ cup whole wheat dry breadcrumbs 60 mL
1 lb lean ground chicken or pork 454 g
whole wheat buns
leaves romaine lettuce
tomato, sliced
These tasty burgers have the flavour of wontons in a burger! Make mini versions of these to enjoy for little hands as well.

Step 1
In a large bowl, stir together egg, soy sauce, sesame oil and breadcrumbs.

Step 2
Add chicken (or pork) and using hands, mix together until well combined. Divide mixture into 4 and shape into about ½ inch (2 cm) patties.

Step 3
Spray large ovenproof nonstick skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium high heat. Brown burgers for about 2 minutes, turn over and brown other side for about 2 minutes or until golden.

Step 4
Place skillet in 400 ºF (200 ºC) oven for about 10 minutes or until burgers are no longer pink inside.

Step 5
Place burger on bottom half of buns and top with lettuce and tomato slices. Top with remaining bun halves to serve.

Serve your favourite condiments alongside with these burgers.
Make these burgers and freeze them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet until solid. Then transfer to re-sealable freezer bag or container.
Freeze for up to 2 months.  If cooking from frozen, add about 8 minutes to cooking time in the oven.
