2014 Kids Recipe Challenge winning recipe (breakfast) : Honourable Mention

Ingredients

3/4 cup plain 1% yogurt 175 mL
1/4 cup milk 60 mL
1 tsp pure maple syrup 5 mL
1/2 tsp vanilla 2 mL
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon 1 mL
apple, cored and finely diced
1/2 cup large flake oats 125 mL
To take this breakfast on the run, pack it into portable containers or jars so kids can grab it and go.

Instructions

Step 1
In a bowl, whisk together yogurt, milk, maple syrup, vanilla and cinnamon.

Step 2
Stir in apple and oats until well combined.

Step 3
Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Tips

Instead of dicing the apple you can grate the apple for less chunky oatmeal.

For a sweeter tasting oatmeal, use empire, royal gala or red delicious apples.

To add a nutty flavour to your oatmeal, simply toast the oats in a dry nonstick skillet over medium heat, stirring often until fragrant and light golden.
