Berry Cheesecake Bars

Makes 20 bars

These bars offer the decadent taste of cheesecake without all the calories. Enjoy after dinner or with afternoon tea.


  Crumb Mixture  
1 cup all-purpose flour 250 mL
1 cup packed brown sugar 250 mL
1/2 cup ground almonds 125 mL
1/4 cup melted butter 50 mL
2 tbsp cold water 25 mL
egg white
package (8 oz/250 g) light cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar 175 mL
1/2 cup low-fat plain yogurt 125 mL
1 1/2 tsp almond extract 7 mL
1 tsp grated orange zest 5 mL
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen berries (see tip) 375 mL
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)
  • 13- by 9-inch (3 L) baking pan, lined with greased foil


Step 1
Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, using an electric mixer on high speed, beat eggs, egg white, cream cheese, sugar, yogurt, almond extract and orange zest until fluffy.

Step 2
Press half of the crumb mixture into prepared pan. Pour in filling and spread evenly. Sprinkle with berries. Drop remaining crumb mixture by tablespoonfuls (15 mL) over berries. Using a knife, swirl filling, berries and crumb mixture.

Step 3
Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely in pan on a wire rack. Remove from pan by lifting foil and transfer to a cutting board. Remove foil and cut into bars

Step 4
Cuire au four préchauffé 35 minutes ou jusqu’à ce qu’un cure-dent inséré au centre en ressorte propre. Déposer le moule sur une grille et laisser refroidir complètement. Démouler en soulevant les bords du papier d’aluminium et déposer sur une planche à découper. Couper en barres.


When lining the baking pan, make sure the foil extends 1 inch (2.5 cm) beyond the edge for easy removal.
We tested these bars with raspberries, blueberries and mixed berries. All versions tasted great.

If you prefer, replace the almond extract with vanilla and the orange zest with lemon.
